Medical equipment manufacturer Terumo Corp. said Thursday it will build a new factory in Yamaguchi, western Japan, to meet growing global demand for catheters, pharmaceutical syringes and other products. The Tokyo-based firm will invest about 30 billion yen for the plant, which it plans to start operating around spring of 2015 with about 130 workforces. It expects sales of around 30 billion yen in fiscal 2020.
The company said it is diversifying its production bases from the central Japanese prefectures of Shizuoka and Yamanashi on concern major disasters could disrupt its operations.
